Epipactis Purpurata : The Violet Helleborine
|
Neutral to alkaline territory,
typically shaded, edge of woodlands. Pollinated by diverse flies and wasps.
Often common 'domestic' wasps. Green parts are tinted violet. Occasionally
large clumps. These seem to be fragile with smaller spikes. Flowers are
larger and paler than the broad leaved helleborine.
Gloucestershire, Cotswolds, June, 1998. The shoot (May, approx) is about 1" high. Blooms in august, approx 2 weeks later than the broad leaved helleborine. |
