Requires poor damp alkaline grassland - preferably waterlogged in
winter. Near Stroud, Glos, UK. In UK blooms in June or July. Often
with common spotted orchids. Relatively short lived.
The images below show color variations etc. The brighter colours are partly due to film
stock differences. The redder bloom could be a Northern Marsh Orchid. Its square topped
bloom is an indicator. On the other hand many of the orchids in the marsh were very tall
with long flower spikes. So hybrids?
The more subdued purple is a Cornishman.
