Platanthera Bifolia : The Lesser Butterfly Orchid
|
Alkaline territory. Usually grassy places, a little more delicate and open than
the greater butterfly orchid. Tips creamy yellow vs greenish on the greater. Also
the nectories (rear horns) thinner and without end thickening. The lesser butterfly
orchid has (unambiguously) smaller and closely spaced pollina as compared to
the widely spaced pollina of the greater.
The forward facing blooms on both blooms
shows pollina 'clubs' pointing out of page. Closely spaced.
Blooms late May. These Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, UK.
