Platanthera Chlorantha : The Greater Butterfly Orchid
|
Alkaline woodland or grassland. Often with early purples in woodland. Blooms late
May. Gloucestershire, UK. Grassy items have smaller leaves. Woodland items have
a high gloss surface on the leaf underside. A true monocot. You really do find
single leaf seedlings. The greater butterfly orchid has widely spaced pollina. The lesser butterfly orchid has closely spaced pollina. The forward facing bloom near the top shows pollina 'clubs' pointing out of page. Widely spaced. Disturbance, even well intentioned, kills them off. |
